When in Rome, do as the Romans do!
We use this expression to say that when you visit another place you should follow the customs of the people in that place! When you are in a foreign country, don’t follow your own country’s rules, but the rules of that country!
“You should stand on the left hand side of the elevator – after all, when in Rome do as the Romans do!”
