
Intra- vs Inter-
These two terms are often confused by English learners. Do you know the difference?
Intra-
A prefix meaning “within” (a group or place)
Her marriage caused an intra-family conflict
Intra-European trade is made easier by the EU
Inter
A prefix meaning among or between (people, things, places)
The UN is an international organization
North Korea has developed intercontinental ballistic missiles
If you’re still not sure…
Intra-family = within your family, and not including any other families
Inter-family = between two or more different families
Intranet = limited or restricted computer connections allowing people to store and share information within an organization, company, country (such as China), school
Internet = the global connected computer system between all computers, regardless of membership of an organization
