A little bit about Peter:
Hi, I’m Peter!
(Well, technically Peter is my middle name, my real first name is Thomas. But there are already two other Toms here at Thinking in English! So, to make things a bit simpler, call me Peter!)
I was born in London and grew up in the outskirts of the city. For this reason, I speak with the accent that is often considered the “neutral” or “typical” southern English accent that you hear on the BBC and in films like James Bond or Harry Potter.
I’m an English teacher now, but I have not always been one!
My first love is philosophy which I studied for a while in Liverpool and then Cambridge. I specialised in writing about consciousness and the mind!
Then, I spent some time working for the British government as a civil servant in the Home Office.
In these two periods, clear communication was crucial. I eventually became a bit obsessed with the English language!
My other great passions are travel and understanding other cultures.
While I have been teaching English, I have also begun learning a foreign language (Italian). This has helped me understand the challenges that my students have while studying English!
Until recently I lived and taught English in Naples, Italy. I taught people of all ages and levels. Mostly, I prepared my students for Cambridge English Exams. Now I have an extremely good understanding of how to ace these Exams! And how to help people to move up to the next level!
I am now teaching online which allows me to be a digital nomad and travel while I work!
