London has just announced new names for six of its overground train lines. These names are both fascinating and slightly controversial, reflecting interesting pieces of history that most of you are probably unfamiliar with.

These names covered diverse periods and events from Caribbean immigration to London, to the successes of England’s women’s football teams.

It also gives us the opportunity to talk a little about London’s famous transport network. So in this episode, I’m going to talk about London’s Tube and its iconic map, the names of the different tube lines, the London overground, and why it needed new names. And then discuss the history and stories behind these new names.

If you like history, this episode will be interesting to you. If you want to visit London in the future, this episode will probably be useful. And if you want to learn some new vocabulary, I think you could also benefit from this bonus episode.
