In October, during my trip back to the UK, I visited Windsor for the first time. Windsor is the location of Windsor castle, the place where most of the royal family live the majority of the time.
My brother had a job interview in the area, so my parents and I decided to go with him and visit some of the historical sites.
We dropped him off at his interview, which was in a town called Old Windsor, and then want to grab a coffee at a tearoom a few minutes away. It was only when I got out of my car and looked across the wide meadow in front of me, that I realised I was looking at Runnymede.
You probably haven’t heard of Runnymede… but it was where the Magna Carta was signed. The Magna Carta is often described as one of the most important documents in history.
Visiting this area inspired me to create an episode on the Magna Carta. So, in today’s episode of Thinking in English, we’re going to explore the story behind the Magna Carta. I’ll talk about the political chaos of medieval England, the rebellious barons who challenged their king, the document itself, and the lasting impact the Magna Carta has had on democracy, law, and human rights.
