Thomas is a qualified English teacher from the UK. He has taught Classics and languages in schools in England, and now teaches English to adults from all over the world. Thomas is also an experienced copy-writer and proofreader
Thomas is an active moderator and ESL Tutor in the Thinking in English community. He writes weekly discussion questions, answers queries, and provides tips on spelling, grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.
Hi my name is Thomas Brock. I’m a teacher that works online with students from all over the world. I specialise in teaching conversational English and in teaching written English. I help my students to practice their speaking skills, build their vocabularies, improve their pronunciation, and develop their confidence when talking in English. When it comes to writing I work closely with my students to improve their skills in creating written work. I have helped my students apply for jobs or university, create detailed presentations or write moving speeches.
As well as being a teacher, I am a (not so) recent graduate of Classics, having spent 3 years studying and 2 years teaching all there is to know about the Ancient worlds of Rome and Greece. This subject has left me with a deep interest in history and in literature – two things that I hope to bring more into my teaching. As a remote worker I have the opportunity to travel and therefore spend my time visiting different countries and exploring different cultures.
Whilst it can sometimes be difficult to maintain a set of hobbies when moving around, I do my best to play tennis, read books, and watch films. I most yearn for spending quality time with friends and family, and trying new things – especially food!
Through the study of 5 famous and classic British poems, you can improve your vocabulary, understand British culture, and discuss and interact with other English Learners with similar interests.
My Experience
After graduating from University I worked in my old school as a support worker. I then went on to train as a Classics teacher through a PGCE and worked in two schools teaching Classics. Once I realised that school teaching was not my calling, I decided to venture out. I soon discovered the world of online English teaching, I completed a TEFL and have been teaching English to adults from all over the globe for 3 years.
