I often get questions from Thinking in English listeners asking if I can actually speak in Japanese. I’m not fluent, but I am trying my hardest to get there. Here is a recording of me speaking in Japanese recently!
On Saturday, I took part in a Japanese speech event… But I only started preparing at 9pm the night before!
Some of the Thinking in English team thought it was quite funny that I would commit to speaking in front of an audience with no actual script, so I decided to record my speech.
I always tell you guys to push and challenge yourselves in a variety of different ways. I feel like you can learn a lot from being in an uncomfortable or unusual situation, and needing to use English.
I practice this in my own life… I try to use Japanese in a variety of weird ways!
For this speech event, I didn’t write a speech… I just wrote down a structure and a few phrases/words I thought would be useful.
This video is the result!
The speech was on the topic of “my favourite café” – I tried to make it a little bit funny and wanted to keep the audience engaged at all times.
If I can stand in front of an audience, make them laugh, and make them understand everything I’m saying… so can you!
I subtitled the video in English – you can watch if you are interested.
How are you going to challenge yourself and make yourself use English?
Would you be interested in an English speech event on our Discord server? Perhaps with a prize for the winner?
