Spotify has released their annual review of podcasts, listeners, and listening trends… and the results for Thinking in English are spectacular!
The number 1 podcast for over 50,000 people, a top 5 podcast for 209,000, and a top 10 podcast for 309,000 people.
That is unbelievable!
This year Thinking in English has charted in 13 different countries, experienced massive growth, and released a lot of episodes.
Thank you so much to every single person who has read a transcript, listened to an episode, and supported the show!
Without your support there is no way I could continue making Thinking in English.
Spotify provided me with a significant amount of information – some interesting and some a little pointless. And I thought I would share all of it you!
The rest of this article will show you every single fact from Spotify Wrapped 2023 with screenshots and a little explanation. I will present this information in the same order as Spotify did (the best stuff is at the end in my opinion).

And remember… this is just from Spotify. None of this data includes Apple, YouTube, Castbox, or any other platform! It was also based on around 10 months of the year (I believe) as 2023 hasn’t finished yet.
New Thinking in English Listeners
The first piece of information Spotify shared this year concerned new Thinking in English listeners.
According to Spotify, 80% of Thinking in English listeners discovered the podcast in 2023. And as 2023 isn’t over yet…. there are probably still people finding out about Thinking in English.

Did you discover the show this year? Or are you a long time listener?
Surprisingly and (maybe) unfortunately, 14% of new listeners started listening with the first every Thinking in English episode.
If you haven’t listened to that episode (English as part of a healthy lifestyle?) I wouldn’t recommend it. The sound quality is terrible, my voice is a little robotic, and the show is clearly not developed yet.
However, as we will see later, you guys seem to love listening to the first every episode!
Global Thinking in English
As a podcast for English learners and non-native English speakers, of course Thinking in English is a global podcast. There are listeners from all over the world!
This year on Spotify Thinking in English was streamed in 124 different countries!
This was actually one of the statistics that confused me a little – I had less plays and listeners last year but was streamed in 128 countries on Spotify in 2022!
The top country for Thinking in English is Poland.
Poland had 11% of all Thinking in English streams and listeners!

While Poland was the number 1 country for listeners, it didn’t experience the largest growth in audience.
Colombia is actually the country with the most new Thinking in English listeners. A lot of people in Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina also discovered Thinking in English this year.

The next Spotify data might be interesting for some of you.
What were the Thinking in English listener’s top podcast genres this year? What types of podcast were you all listening to this year?
Of course, the number 1 category was Education. Thinking in English listeners tended to also listen to other education podcasts.
I guess this is largely English learning shows?
The second most popular podcast category for Thinking in English listeners was Society & Culture which was not overly surprising.
However, I was a little surprised that Health & Fitness was the third most popular podcast category!

One of the best features introduced by Spotify over the past few years is the ability to add polls and questions to episodes.
This year, I published 68 polls and received over 36,000 votes. That is an average of 530 votes per poll!
I also published 73 Question and Answers on Spotify.
You guys responded 1260 times so far this year!
This year was also a spectacular year for Thinking in English in the Spotify charts.
Not every country has Spotify podcast charts. I think 26 countries do at the moment.
Thinking in English charted in 13 different countries (so 50% of all Spotify charts) and reached a peak of #5!
I also charted for 43 weeks.
This puts me in the top 1% of all podcasts that reached the charts (most podcasts never chart).
I was actually confused by this statistic for a while.
I can’t remember a single day when the show wasn’t charting in at least one place. There are 52 weeks in a year… but Spotify only reported that I charted for 43 weeks.
However, I realised the Spotify wrapped only takes into account 9 or 10 months worth of data (it was released at the end of November this year).
Top Thinking in English Listeners
Now we get to my favourite information from Spotify wrapped – the top listeners.
Let’s go in order.
Thinking in English was a top 10 Spotify podcast for 309,307 people.
A top 5 Spotify show for 209,091 people.
And the NUMBER 1 SHOW for 51,299 people.
These are numbers that I can’t even comprehend, understand, or really accept.
How can a podcast I started (and still) making by myself in my bedroom reach so many people? I can’t thank you all enough.
