Earlier this month, Glasgow in Scotland was announced as the host of the Commonwealth Games in 2026.

This was a last-minute decision. The Games were originally scheduled to take place in the Australian state of Victoria until they pulled out due to financial concerns.

The Commonwealth games are a major sporting event, taking place every four years, and involving athletes from countries around the world competing in a variety of sports. Despite this, I’m assuming many of you will not have heard of these games before.

Today I want to first talk about the Commonwealth and its connection to the British Empire. I’ll then discuss the history, present, and future of the Commonwealth Games!
