This week the ‘Thinking in English’ Community is focusing on the passive voice!

Inspired by my recent episodes on passive voice and passive questions, this conversation club will give you the chance to practice forming sentences and questions in the passive form.

Here are 10 conversation questions to get you speaking and using the passive!

The Thinking in English Conversation Club takes place every TUESDAY and THURSDAY at 12pm, 6pm, and midnight UK time!

Conversation Questions:

  1. What type of food is usually cooked at home in your country?
  2. Which language is spoken by most people in your country? 
  3. What is the most famous city in your country? Why is this city visited by tourists?
  4. What festivals are celebrated in your country?
  5. Has your bicycle or phone (or anything) ever been stolen?
  6. What’s the best present you’ve ever been given?
  7. What products are exported by your country?
  8. Which sports are played at school or by children in your town?
  9. Which companies in your country are known for their products internationally?
  10. Make your own passive questions!
Grammar
  • Basic Passive: Object + to be + past participle (+ by + agent)
    • The book was written by J.K. Rowling.
  • Yes/No Questions in Passive: To be + past participle (+ by + agent)?
    • Was the book written by J.K. Rowling?
  • Question Word + Passive: Question word + to be + past participle (+ by + agent)?
    • Who was the book written by?
