A new year is the perfect time to build new habits, and one of the best habits for improving your English is speaking regularly.

In January 2026, our Thinking in English Conversation Clubs are back with engaging topics, multiple weekly time slots, and learners joining from all around the world. Whether your goal is to speak more confidently, prepare for work or study, or enjoy interesting discussions in English, this monthโ€™s schedule has something for you.

Below, youโ€™ll find all the details about Januaryโ€™s Conversation Club topics, dates, times, and how to join.

January Conversation Club Topics

Each week, we focus on a different theme designed to encourage natural conversation, opinion sharing, and real-life English use. As always, Iโ€™ll prepare discussion questions, useful vocabulary, and example answers before each session.

January Conversation Club Schedule!

Week 1: New Yearโ€™s Resolutions

Tuesday & Thursday: January 6 & 8

Weโ€™ll start the year by talking about goals, habits, motivation, and self-improvement.
Questions include:

  • Do New Yearโ€™s resolutions really work?
  • Why do people give up so quickly?
  • How can we create realistic and meaningful goals?

A perfect topic to practise expressing opinions, giving advice, and talking about the future.

Week 2: Australia โ€“ Land Down Under!

Tuesday & Thursday: January 13 & 15

This week, we travel (in English!) to Australia. Weโ€™ll discuss:

  • Australian culture and lifestyle
  • Wildlife, nature, and geography
  • Living, studying, or working abroad

A fun and relaxed topic thatโ€™s great for descriptive language and cultural discussion.

Week 3: Life in the Ancient World

Tuesday & Thursday: January 20 & 22

How did people live thousands of years ago? Weโ€™ll explore:

  • Daily life in ancient civilisations
  • Technology, religion, and social structures
  • What modern society can learn from the past

This topic is ideal for practising past tenses, comparisons, and speculative language.

Week 4: Nature & Science

Tuesday & Thursday: January 27 & 29

Weโ€™ll finish the month by discussing the natural world and scientific ideas. Topics include:

  • Nature vs technology
  • Climate, environment, and science in daily life
  • How science affects our future

A great session for practising explanations, cause-and-effect language, and giving opinions.

Conversation Club Times (UK Time)

We run six Conversation Clubs every week:

Tuesdays & Thursdays

  • 12:00 UK time
  • 18:00 UK time
  • 23:00 UK time

You can join one session or all six each week, depending on your schedule.

Each session lasts around 60 minutes and takes place in small groups of 3โ€“4 learners, supported by trained English tutors (and me!).
