Today, I want to talk about an idea you might have heard before: the Tragedy of the Commons.
This is one of those phrases that appears again and again in different discussions and fields of interest. You’ll hear it in economics, when people talk about markets and resources. You’ll hear it in environmental discussions, especially when we talk about pollution, climate change, or overfishing. And you’ll also hear it in politics and social issues, whenever people are debating responsibility, cooperation, and shared problems.
So if you’ve ever heard this phrase and thought, “I kind of understand it… but not really”, this episode is for you.
By the end of this episode, you should clearly understand what the Tragedy of the Commons means, why it happens, and how it works, through clear definitions and examples.
