Thinking in English Conversation Clubs

Struggling to Speak in English?

Many English learners study for years, listening to podcasts, memorising vocabulary, watching movies, yet still struggle to speak confidently in real situations. You might understand a lot of English, but when it’s time to open your mouth, the words disappear.

This is completely normal, and it’s exactly the problem Thinking in English Conversation Clubs are designed to solve.

Conversation Clubs give you the missing step between learning English and using English, helping you practise speaking in a friendly, supportive, and structured environment.

What are Conversation Clubs?

Our Thinking in English Conversation Clubs are friendly, small-group sessions where you can finally practise speaking English regularly, naturally, and without stress.

These clubs are designed to help you:

  • practise real conversation
  • build confidence
  • discuss interesting topics
  • meet learners from around the world
  • use vocabulary and grammar from recent podcast episodes

Many learners feel nervous about speaking English, especially if they don’t have opportunities to practise in their daily life. Conversation Clubs give you a safe, relaxed space to speak as much as possible, experiment with new language, make mistakes, and learn from them.

Every week, I prepare a unique topic, discussion questions, a vocabulary list, and example answers for different English levels. I give you everything you need to feel confident and ready before the session begins.

Usually, the topics connect to the previous week’s episode, helping you turn passive listening into active speaking.

In each session, you will be placed into small groups of 3–4 people. Our trained English tutors (and me) move around the groups to support conversations, answer questions, and make sure everything runs smoothly.

The goal is simple: speak as much as possible.

Who Can Join the Conversation Club?

Conversation Clubs are open to all Patreon members on the English Learner and English Master tiers. These levels include full access to every speaking event each week. For just £11.50 a month, you can attend up to 24 sessions a month!

Join one session or join them all!

If you are currently an English Listener, you can upgrade at any time to start participating in the clubs.

All learners are welcome, but most participants are intermediate to upper-intermediate (B1-C1 level), which means you’ll be speaking with motivated people who genuinely want to improve. And because the groups are small, everyone has plenty of time to talk.

If you want to build confidence, prepare for study or work abroad, or make English-speaking friends, I think the Conversation Club community is one of the most supportive and friendly places to practise.

On average, 50–70 learners take part every week.

Hundreds of learners have used the clubs to improve their English, gain confidence, and achieve real-world goals. Here’s what some of them say:

Learner Testimonials

Doris (Taiwan)

“I’m truly grateful that you created this space for English learners around the world to practice together. Conversation Club has been with me on my journey from preparing for the IELTS exam to actually moving to the UK to study.”

Diego (Ecuador)

“Finally I’ve got a job! I want to thank you and the Thinking in English team for providing us (non-English speakers) with this safe space to practise, learn about interesting topics, get to know people, and learn from failure. During my time joining these clubs, I have improved a lot, and have helped me to gain confidence when speaking in English! Now, I would say job interviews are like a conversation club!

Conversation Club Blog Articles

To help you feel confident and fully prepared before each session, I publish a Conversation Club Blog Article every week. These posts give you everything you need to participate successfully, even if you’re shy or unsure about your speaking ability.

Each weekly article includes:

  • The upcoming discussion questions
  • A useful vocabulary list connected to the topic
  • Example answers at different English levels (so you can see how to respond naturally)
  • Extra notes and cultural explanations when necessary
  • A short summary connecting the topic to the latest podcast episode

These articles act as your study guide for the week’s Conversation Club. You can read them quickly before the session or use them to revise afterwards.

You can find all the weekly articles here: https://thinkinginenglish.blog/category/blog/conversation-club/

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do I need to speak perfectly?

Not at all. Conversation Clubs are designed for learning, practising, and making mistakes. Nobody speaks perfectly, the goal is to improve your confidence and fluency over time.

What English level is required?

Most participants are upper-intermediate to advanced, but motivated intermediate learners also do very well. You don’t need to be fluent. You only need to be willing to speak and improve.

What if I’m shy or nervous?

Many learners feel this way at first. The groups are small, friendly, and supportive, and you’ll quickly feel comfortable. You’re never forced to speak, but you’ll be surprised how quickly your confidence grows.

What technology do I need?

You only need:

  • A smartphone or computer
  • A stable internet connection
  • Free Discord account (you’ll get the link after joining Patreon)

No special software, no complicated setup.

Can I join without a camera?

Yes. Cameras are optional, but recommended. Some learners prefer to keep theirs off, and that’s completely fine. But turning on your camera makes conversation easier.

How long are the sessions?

Each Conversation Club usually lasts 50–60 minutes. Some learners stay for the full hour, while others join for part of the session when they are busy.

What if I can’t join every week?

No problem! You can join whenever your schedule allows. Some patrons join every session, others attend once or twice a month. It’s flexible and designed to fit your life.
