What is the Thinking in English Film Club?
The Film Club is a great opportunity for Thinking in English Patreon members to practice their conversational English by discussing a film with other members.
Members meet every week on Wednesdays at 6pm UK Time to discuss Films and TV. Most weeks there is no specific topic and you do not have to watch or prepare anything before joining. It’s just a free chat about films!
However at the end of each month we have a special Film Club: Premiere where we discuss one specific film. Earlier in the month, members have voted for what film they want to discuss and just like in the normal Conversation Clubs we will provide 10 questions about the film to help to inspire you.
You can find these (and some other useful resources) below…
For our next Film Club: Premiere on Wednesday 25th August, we will be discussing Interstellar, an iconic modern sci-fi epic simultaneously focussing on time, love, self-sacrifice, the future of humanity, and black holes!

Interstellar
(2021)
What is Interstellar
Here is a movie description for Interstellar
Interstellar will be the second Christopher Nolan film discussed by the Film Club. In October 2023, we talked about his 2010 movie Inception. Like many of Nolan’s films, Interstellar is visually stunning, thought-provoking, and packed with complex ideas.
The story follows Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), who lives in a future where Earth is slowly dying because of environmental problems. Because there is no longer enough food on earth, Cooper is recruited by NASA to join a team of scientists on a mission to find a new habitable planet to save humanity.
The film uses scientific concepts from Einstein’s theory of relativity to explore what might happen to people traveling through and around black holes. But despite the vast sci-fi elements, at its heart, Interstellar is really about love, family and sacrifice.
It’s an ambitious film combining space travel, complex physics, and the future of humanity with a deep exploration of family…
But, in the end, do you think it works??Join us for the Film Club Premiere on 25th September to share your thoughts!
