If you are self-employed, run a small business, have a side income, or even just want to understand how personal finances work, you need to know some basic accounting and bookkeeping vocabulary.

These terms are essential for managing your money, preparing financial reports, and filing taxes correctly. However, for many English learners, accounting vocabulary can seem confusing and difficult to understand.

I recently had to do my Japanese taxes, and I realised just how important accounting knowledge is – especially for people like me who are self-employed. Even in my native language, English, financial terminology can be tricky, so I imagine that for many of you, it must be even more challenging!

That’s why in today’s episode, I want to introduce you to some basic and essential accounting and bookkeeping terms that will help you feel more confident when dealing with financial matters.

By the end of this episode, you should have a solid foundation in basic English financial vocabulary that will help you in your business, freelancing, or just managing your personal budget.
