When I was a child, I spent hours outside. Running across fields, hiding behind trees, and playing football at the local park with friends. We played until it got dark, often far from home, but never far from other children.
Today, many children spend their free time inside. They sit in front of screens, relax on sofas, and stay at home. Parks near their houses are quieter, and playgrounds across the street are often empty.
Are children spending too much time indoors? And more importantly, does it matter where children spend their time?
In this episode, we’ll explore how childhood has changed, why children go outside less than before, and what the benefits and risks of outdoor play really are. Along the way, we’ll use prepositions of place naturally to describe the spaces children live, learn, and play in.
