Could something as small as a butterfly flapping its wings cause a tornado on the other side of the world?
This might sound impossible, but the idea is actually the inspiration behind a famous scientific concept called the Butterfly Effect. There is a high chance you have heard of the Butterfly Effect before as it has become quite common in popular culture.
Today’s Thinking in English episode is going to discuss what the butterfly effect really means and also think a little about Chaos Theory (which is where the idea originally comes from). Chaos theory studies complex systems and tries to understand why they can behave in ways that are difficult or impossible to predict.
I’ll look some examples of the butterfly effect in our culture and also think about how the concept is often misunderstood!
