In our May Thinking in English conversation clubs, we are going to discuss the World Cup, art, cultural differences ,and job interviews. Each of these topics will give you the chance to practise expressing opinions, telling stories, and using English in practical situations.

May Conversation Club Topics

Each week, we focus on a different theme designed to encourage natural conversation, opinion sharing, and real-life English use. As always, Iโ€™ll prepare discussion questions, useful vocabulary, and example answers before each session.

Week 1: World Cup Boycott?

Tuesday & Thursday: May 5 & 7

We start May with a lively and debate-friendly topic.

Weโ€™ll discuss:

  • The 2026 World Cup
  • The relationship between sports and politics
  • Ethical issues in global competitions

This session is perfect for practising debate skills, agreeing and disagreeing, and expressing strong opinions politely.


Week 2:ย Greatest Artist Ever?

Tuesday & Thursday: May 12 & 14

Who is the greatest artist of all time? Weโ€™ll explore:

  • What is art?
  • Modern art vs traditional art?
  • The greatest artists of all time!

This should be a fun and creative topic that encourages you to share opinions and use descriptive language.


Week 3: Time and Culture

Tuesday & Thursday: May 19 & 21

Time is not the same in every culture. Weโ€™ll discuss:

  • Different attitudes to punctuality
  • Work-life balance around the world
  • Cultural misunderstandings related to time
  • Personal experiences with time differences

This is a highly relatable topic and great for sharing experiences and practising real-life conversational English.


Week 4: Job Interview Practice

Tuesday & Thursday: May 26 & 28

We finish May with a practical and useful session. Weโ€™ll practise:

  • Common job interview questions
  • How to introduce yourself clearly
  • Talking about your experience and skills
  • Answering confidently and naturally

This session is ideal if youโ€™re preparing for work or want to improve your professional English communication skills.

Conversation Club Times (UK Time)

All Conversation Clubs run at the same weekly times:

Tuesdays & Thursdays

  • 12:00 UK time
  • 18:00 UK time
  • 24:00 UK time

You can join one session or all six each week, depending on your schedule and goals.

Each session lasts around 60 minutes and takes place in small groups of 3โ€“4 learners, supported by trained English tutors (and me!).

Conversation Clubs are available to Patreon members on the English Learner and English Master tiers.
