The Weather is Really Important

Hello again everyone,

You may have noticed that last week there was no blog post, and that is because I was in Belgrade, Serbia with my family, enjoying a well-earned break. This week I find myself in Lisbon, Portugal, enjoying a much less deserved break.

Seasons Really Matter

On my recent trip to the capital of Belgrade, I came across an idea.

As I was walking around taking photos, I found a building that I had already photographed on one of my previous trips to the city. As I looked at the building in front of me, I couldn’t help but notice how it looked so much more vibrant than I remembered. The trees were greener, the sky bluer.

This time it will be in the middle of Spring and the whole city should have a slightly different feel to it. I hope at least.

When I first visited, it was January, it was winter, and it was grey.

This time, in late April, the sun was shining, the sky was blue, and it was Spring. This got me thinking about travel, about our impressions of a place we visit, and how much our overall perception can be influenced by the weather, the climate, and the season.

I am reminded of the first time my family visited me in Montenegro and how it rained and rained and rained for the first half of their trip. If it hadn’t been for the glorious sunshine on the last day of their visit, I think they never would have come back.

So, why am I writing about this?

Well, I plan to write a longer post about my trip, and about my current visit to Lisbon, but something I am currently reflecting on and working into my post, is the importance of the season and of the weather. I now realise how important these factors are for our impression of any place.

That’s it for this week.
