This week the ‘Thinking in English’ Community is talking about the US election!

US politics has become a worldwide media show, and every country seems to follow the US elections with interest. But are you interested, and what do you think about it?

This month, US citizens will vote on who their next president will be. This year the candidates both have their own popularity issues, so it will be a tight race!

Here are 10 conversation questions to get you talking about the US election!

The Thinking in English Conversation Club takes place every TUESDAY at 12pm, 6pm, and 9pm, and THURSDAY at 12pm and 6pm UK time!

  • Election
    • a time when people vote in order to choose someone for a political or official job
  • Debate
    • (a) serious discussion of a subject in which many people take part
  • Confrontation
    • behaving in an angry or unfriendly way that is likely to cause an argument
  • Compare
    • to examine or look for the difference between two or more things
  • Media coverage
    • the amount of attention and exposure a person, brand, event, or topic receives from the media
  • Outcome
    • a result or effect of an action, situation, etc.
  • Freedom of expression
    • freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority
  • Despise
    • to feel a strong dislike for someone or something because you think that that person or thing is bad or has no value
