This week the Thinking in English Conversation Club is discussing trips, travels, and vacations.
I recently took a wonderful trip to the southern Japanese region of Kyushu. I learned a lot about the region’s history in Nagasaki, ate delicious food in Fukuoka, and relaxed in hot springs in Oita.
Inspired by this, I thought we could discuss our travel experiences and thoughts on some more controversial issues in the conversation club!
Here are some conversation questions to get you talking!

Conversation Questions:
- Do you like traveling? Why or why not?
- What was the last trip you took?
- Have you ever had a bad travel experience? What happened?
- Have you ever experienced culture shock while traveling?
- How do you balance relaxing and sightseeing when you travel?
- What do you look for when choosing a hotel or place to stay?
- What’s the difference between being a tourist and being a traveler?
- Should people stop flying to help the environment?
- Do you think tourism helps or harms local communities?

Vocabulary
- Culture shock (Noun): A feeling of confusion or discomfort when experiencing a different culture.
- Sightseeing (Noun): Visiting famous or interesting places, especially while traveling.
- Tourist (Noun): A person who is visiting a place for pleasure.
- Traveler (Noun): A person who travels to places
- Environment (Noun): The natural world, including land, air, and water.
- Community (Noun): A group of people living in the same area or sharing something in common.
- Accommodation (Noun): A place where you stay while traveling, like a hotel or guesthouse.
- Trip (Noun): A journey or travel experience, usually short or specific in purpose.
- Balance (Verb/Noun): To give the right amount of attention or time to different things.
