YouTube is now 20 years old. It has revolutionised media and changed how we consume content. 

Do you use YouTube often? What kind of videos do you usually watch? Do you think YouTube has too many ads?

Let’s discuss these questions and more.

Here are some conversation questions to get you talking!

The Thinking in English Conversation Club takes place every TUESDAY and THURSDAY at 12pm, 6pm, and midnight UK time!

Conversation Questions:

  1. Do you use YouTube? How often?
  2. What kind of videos do you usually watch? Who is your favorite YouTuber or channel?
  3. Do you use YouTube to study English?
  4. Would you like to start your own YouTube channel? What would it be about?
  5. What do you think makes a good YouTube video?
  6. Do you trust YouTubers who recommend products?
  7. Should children be allowed to watch YouTube freely?
  8. Do you think YouTube has too many ads?
  9. Is YouTube a good career option for young people?
  10.  What do you think?
Vocabulary
  • Platform (n): A type of software or website where users can share or access content.
    YouTube is a popular platform for watching videos.
  • Channel (n): A specific page or account on YouTube where a person or brand uploads videos.
    Her cooking channel has over 1 million subscribers.
  • Content (n): The information, ideas, or entertainment in a video or post.
    Good content keeps viewers coming back for more.
  • Recommend (v): To suggest something as useful or good.
    I don’t always trust influencers who recommend expensive products.
  • Ad / Advertisement (n): A short video or message promoting a product or service.
    YouTube shows ads before and during videos.
  • Trustworthy (adj): Reliable or honest; can be trusted.
    Some YouTubers seem more trustworthy than others.
  • Influencer (n): A person on social media who affects what people buy or think.
    Many YouTubers are influencers who review products.
  • Educational (adj): Something that helps people learn.
    I watch educational videos on YouTube to study English.
  • Viewer (n): A person who watches a video or program.
    The video had over 2 million viewers in one day.
  • Monetize (v): To make money from something, especially content online.
    Many YouTubers try to monetize their channels with ads and sponsorships.
