In August’s Thinking in English Conversation Clubs we are going to talk about travel planning, leadership, urban life, and productivity. This is a mixture of personal, practical, and global topics that hopefully will encourage you all to have some meaningful discussion.
As always, every Conversation Club session is designed to help you feel prepared and confident, with:
- Carefully prepared discussion questions
- A focused vocabulary list
- Example answers at different levels
- Small-group speaking practice
- Support from trained tutors (and me!)
Hereโs whatโs coming up in July 2026.
August Conversation Club Topics
Each week, we focus on a different theme designed to encourage natural conversation, opinion sharing, and real-life English use. As always, Iโll prepare discussion questions, useful vocabulary, and example answers before each session.

Week 1: Plan Your Ideal Trip
Tuesday & Thursday: August 4 & 6
We begin August with a discussion about travel and vacation planning.
Weโll discuss:
- How to design your dream itinerary
- Budgeting vs. luxury travel choices
- Our travel experiences
- What makes a trip truly meaningful
This session is perfect for practising descriptive language, planning skills, and sharing personal travel stories.
Week 2:ย What Makes a Good Leader?
Tuesday & Thursday: August 11 & 13
What qualities make someone a good leader? Are you a good leader? Let’s talk about this in these conversation clubs!
Weโll discuss:
- Key traits of successful leaders
- Can leadership skills be taught, or are people born with them?
- What is a leader?
A thought-provoking topic thatโs great for debating, expressing opinions, and discussing professional concepts.
Week 3: Talking About Cities
Tuesday & Thursday: August 18 & 20
This week, we turn our focus to capital cities and major towns.
- What is your country’s capital city?
- What the ideal city of the future should look like
- Your favourite cities and modern architecture
Perfect for descriptive vocabulary, expressing preferences, and discussing modern lifestyle trends.
Week 4: How to Become More Productive
Tuesday & Thursday: August 25 & 27
We finish August with a practical topic focused on managing time and maximizing focus.
- Daily routines and productivity hacks
- Overcoming procrastination and distractions
- The balance between hard work and burnout
- Digital tools vs. traditional planning methods
This session is ideal for sharing practical advice, discussing habits, and improving practical English communication.
