This week the Thinking in English Community is talking about leadership!
I recently made episodes on the UK’s new Prime Minister and the difference between Presidents and Prime Ministers. We try to avoid political discussions in the conversation club, so I thought we could discuss leadership instead of anything controversial (as prime ministers and presidents are important leaders). What actually makes someone a good leader? Is it confidence, experience, kindness, intelligence, or something else entirely?
In this conversation club, we’ll discuss the qualities of effective leaders, the people who have inspired us, and whether leadership is something you’re born with or something you can learn. It’s a great opportunity to practice expressing opinions, giving examples, and discussing different leadership styles in English.
Here are 10 conversation questions to get you talking about what makes a good leader and the role leadership plays in our lives!
The Thinking in English Conversation Club takes place every TUESDAY and THURSDAY at 12pm, 6pm, and 24pm UK time!

- Lead (Verb): To guide or direct a group of people.
- Leader (Noun): A person who guides or manages a group, organisation, or country.
- Leadership (Noun): The ability to lead and influence other people.
- Follow (Verb): To accept guidance or direction from another person.
- Ask for advice (Phrase): To request someone’s opinion or suggestions.
- Coach (Noun): A person who trains and helps someone improve a skill or ability.
