During the Cold War, Britain and the Soviet Union were rivals. They were both part of a global struggle for power and information. And both sides relied on spies to uncover secrets.
In today’s episode, I want to introduce you to perhaps the most famous spies in British history: the Cambridge Four. These were four men educated at the University of Cambridge who secretly worked as Soviet spies while building successful careers in Britain’s intelligence services, government, and in diplomacy.
We’ll explore who they were, why they chose to betray their country, how they managed to avoid suspicion for so many years, and the impact they had on British intelligence and the Cold War.
And at the same time let’s learn some new vocabulary!
