Recently I have seen quite a few articles online mentioning concepts like Luddism, or the group known as Luddites, and actually a festival in New York City called the Summer of Ludd. Especially in discussion around AI, it has become relativley common to refer to someone being a Luddite.
But what is a Luddite?
Today, the word Luddite is usually used to describe someone who is against technological progress. But the original Luddites were followers of a radical movement. So, who were they, why did they destroy machines, and what can their story teach us about technology today?
