What is the Thinking in English Film Club?
The Film Club is a great opportunity for Thinking in English Patreon members to practice their conversational English by discussing a film with other members.
Members meet every week on Wednesdays at 6pm UK Time to discuss Films and TV. Most weeks there is no specific topic and you do not have to watch or prepare anything before joining. It’s just a free chat about films!
However at the end of each month we have a special Film Club: Premiere where we discuss one specific film. Earlier in the month, members have voted for what film they want to discuss and just like in the normal Conversation Clubs we will provide 10 questions about the film to help to inspire you.
You can find these (and some other useful resources) below…
For our next Film Club: Premiere on Wednesday 30th October, we will be celebrating our second Halloween together with a (funny and not very scary) spooky film! Young Frankenstein (1974) is one of the most famous films of legendary comedy director Mel Brooks! Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman are hilarious in this parody of classic horror films

Young Frankenstein
(1974)
What is Young Frankenstein
Here is a movie description for Young Frankenstein
Young Frankenstein stars Gene Wilder (you might know him as Willy Wonka!) as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the famous Dr. Victor Frankenstein.
Even though he is initially ashamed of family’s strange experiments, when he inherits his grandfather’s castle in Transylvania, he becomes curious. With the help of his assistants Igor and Inga, Frederick finds his grandfather’s secret lab and restarts his work!
Of course things don’t go exactly as planned and the experiment leads to funny and chaotic scenes. The movie is a playful tribute to old horror films, with silly characters, clever jokes, and lots of physical comedy. Directed by Mel Brooks, it’s a mix of classic spooky tropes and whimsical humour!
