Hello Tom,
It requires self-awareness to talk about one’s own weaknesses. Thank you so much for sharing yours with us. Personally, I agree with the to-do list and some form of online or even offline calendar to organize tasks. Moreover, my MacBook has also changed the way I write scientific articles and prepare lectures for students.
If I had to share one productivity trick, I would certainly recommend meditation. In the past, I read a lot about it but always struggled and wasn’t able to maintain the practice. All that changed after I watched an interview with Novak Djokovic. In that interview, he recommended a book which I read. Even though some passages delved deeply into the explanation of Tibetan culture and religious matters, the book helped me a lot. So, every morning, after lunch, and sometimes in the evening, I do short 5-10 minute breathing exercises. I can’t imagine my day without them anymore.
However, what bothers me are the short, unpredictable moments throughout the day. These brief periods of “empty time” are often spent unwisely. I would like to change this in the future, but I need to find productive activities to fill them with.
