English Listener subscribers can now join the Discord server!

English Listeners will be able to join in text chats and forums, as well as receiving updates. However, you will not be able to access voice channels or participate in conversation clubs, film clubs, study groups, or any in-person events.

If you wish to attend in-person events, upgrade to at least the English Learner tier.

DISCORD

I spent the weekend reorganising the Discord server!

There are now a bunch of new rooms providing more information on how to use the server and its functions, as well as giving Patreon subscribers more opportunities to practice and communicate.

All Patreon members welcome to make forum posts, post in the free chat rooms, or use any of the other channels to discuss and organise events!

If there are any rooms, channels, or features you would like to see introduced into Discord let me know!

FILM CLUB

In October we launched a new Patreon benefit alongside our Conversation Clubs – the Film Club.

The Film Club follows a similar structure to our conversation clubs, but revolves around a film you have all recently watched. Watching movies, then describing and discussing them is an incredible way to practice English.

Watching movies challenges your listening skills, your ability to comprehend information, and your critical thinking powers. The discussing the movie in a group tests your speaking ability, how well you can communicate your opinions and thoughts, and perhaps your skills in argument and debate.

So far we have had Film Club sessions on the Christopher Nolan movie Inception and a Halloween special on Edward Scissorhands.

These sessions have been so successful that we will continue them until the end of the year. This means there will be Film Clubs on November 15th and 29th, and December 13th (subject to change).

The next film club will be at 19pm on November 15th – and the theme is Stanley Kubrick. We are holding a poll on which Kubrick movie watch. Check out the poll (or the poll results) here:

If these sessions continue to be successful, I will consider running more times in the future!
