I Got a New Writing Gig!

Hello again everyone,

I would first like to apologise for the fact that there was no blog post last week.

Well, that was because I was really busy with some work that I have recently taken on. I have started working as a content writer for an eLearning company, as a freelancer. This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time, writing, that is.

Whilst I am ashamed that I let my work get in the way of my weekly blog posts, I did think it could be a good opportunity to talk about my new writing gig, and about writing more generally. So here goes.

I have always wanted to be a writer.

I am an English teacher, but writing is my truest passion. I have a lot of ideas for the things that I would like to write. Stories, articles, essays, books, films, the list goes on and on. Until now though, I have never actually been able to make a living through writing. I am extremely happy to have been given the opportunity to support myself through this skill and to potentially build a successful career around something I love doing.

This particular opportunity is great, I get paid to write about a topic I have an interest, and some experience in, eLearning. I have created courses in the past, have classroom experience, and teach via an online medium every day. It’s actually quite nice to contribute to a community that I’ve felt a very small part of for a long time.

I sincerely hope that my efforts are continually appreciated and that my new client continues to find work for me, or that my work can attract some new clients. Despite this notion, I don’t just want to write articles about digital tools for educators, I want to write much more than that.

What Do I Want to Write?

I have really enjoyed writing this blog, and will continue to post each week for the foreseeable future, but I would absolutely love to explore new writing opportunities online, perhaps in the form of a new blog dedicated to a theme, perhaps alone, perhaps as a contributor.

I also would love to write about a wider set of topics that are of interest to me. I love food, travel, literature, film, culture, politics, history and more. I also want to embark on some longer projects, to find the time to write something special.

Perhaps one of the key parts of my message this week should be about my interest in teaching writing.

As an English teacher, writing is a core skill that I work on with many students, and I would like to create and deliver a course for students, specifically targeting writing skills – perhaps even specialising in creative writing. This is because, of all the writing I have ever done, I have this desire to write things that people will want to read.

No matter what I write, I want people to enjoy reading it.

Hi I'm Thomas and I'm an English language teacher and editor. I teach English to adults from all over the world. I focus on written English and on conversational English. I also edit written English in a number of different fields and areas. When I'm not teaching I'm travelling as much as I can, cooking new dishes, and trying hard to play and watch sports.
