Let sleeping dogs lie!
This expression means to avoid interfering in a situation that is currently causing no problems but may well do so as a result of interference! If a dog is sleeping peacefully, don’t wake it up – it might bite or bark!
“I’d let sleeping dogs lie, instead of reopening the investigation”
“Sarah decided to let sleeping dogs lie, and didn’t bring up the argument from the night before”
Expressions are a fun thing to learn and really useful part of English! Why don’t you try to incorporate some expressions into your daily English?
